What a recruiter expects from your cover letter.

It is said that in order to persuade, a useful tip is for you to mimick the body language of the person in front of you. Well, generally speaking, in order to convince somebody, you have to make sure you speak the same language as him. Knowing that, let us think and build up your cover letter according to the following rules.

1st rule: Be straight to the point

Here are a few tips so you can do it:
  • Choose a title or theme for your cover letter, it will certainly help you out in having a short cover letter and can be something like "The importance of team spirit to be an efficient Cost controller"

  • Do not exceed 10 to 15 lines at the most

  • Use a simple language made of short sentences.

2nd rule: Build your case with clear examples

You should put yourself in the shoes of a lawyer:
  • If you state that you have developed team spirit throughout your career, make sure you illustrate it with an example
  • When it is rather an ability to summarize, it should be proven with an assignment you have fulfilled
  • If you present yourself as an organized individual, this quality should also show up in the way you have built up your cover letter.

3rd rule: Be original but yet organized in your writing

You can create an original organization for your letter but it should still have some overall logic. One way to set up your letter would be the following one:

  • 1st paragraph: The topic is here the company and the job position you are applying for

  • 2nd paragraph: Here, as a recruiter, I can read your profile with the skills you have developed as long as examples to illustrate them. Do not hesitate to build this part of the letter around one KEY quality. For instance, the ability to work as a team (the fact of the matter is you cannot illustrate all the skills in a 10 to 15 line letter). You will end up by stating you are confident in the fact you are a wonderful fit for this job position.
  • 3rd and last paragraph: Make a statement with the salutations and mention your availabity for an up and coming interview.

I will leave you with the following statement to sum up what is needed:

"I am straightforward, eager to justify myself and a well-organized person that is why I am efficient in writing an interesting cover letter."

I am now confident you will do better with your next cover letter, especially if you also use the ultimate step-by-step guide below.
